Please, think what it’s like for people from other English speaking countries, since your printing industry has totally revised the spelling of many common words in order to save a few dollars, it makes searching problematic at times.( colour has a U in it ). It is only a matter of time until publishers change to SMS and WEB based spelling platforms. This should make reading the classics even more challenging.
I believe that you have it reversed in the case of color/colour seeing that the Latin root is spelled
color. The spelling
colour came in use in Middle English which was borrowed from Old French.
