RE: Eureka Aircraft Troublemaker Build Thread
Well, she has officially flown. I took her out today and flew her three times. A few clicks of right trim and one or two down and she was tracking like an arrow. I initially had the Master Airscrew 11X7 on it and we tach'ed it at 13000 rpm. We then put an APC 11X7 hand got 13600 out of her and more speed. Can't wait to try the 11X8 or maybe a 10X10.
First flight I mainly made trim passes. Second flight I tried several half-reverse cubans. Third flight I did all these plus the 3 loop sequence. I have to say, having never flown one of these type planes, I can see why you guys like them so much! I got a rush every time I poured the coals to it coming out of that 1/2 reverse cuban. WOW... In fact, one of the guys at the field who flew this type of pattern years ago asked me why I was throttling back at all!!! So, I did several with full throttle and the Rossi, nor the plane even flinched.
The landings were surprisingly easy. That is until I touched down with a slight crab and turned one of my retracts 90 degrees. Whoops! Forgot to file that flat spot on the strut. It nosed over hard and dented the header, but it didn't break. It cracked one of my retract mount blocks, but that can all be fixed. I'M OFFICIALLY HOOKED!!!
