Hangar 9 Edge 540 Tail Mounted Elevator Servos
Hi Hooked-On-RC,
I've got a Hangar 9 Edge 540 with dual elevator servos and none of them are mounted in the tail. The 2 for the elevator and the one for the rudder are all mounted in their stock locations. I'm running a Saito 1.80 in mine with a Tru-Turn spinner and a larger 24 oz. tank up front. The only thing I had to do to get it to balance dead even was mount the battery pack on a lite-ply plate at the rear most area of the wing saddle. I finally got to test fly it this past Sunday and was really pleased with it. It's a real floater on landing, I ran out of runway twice before I finally got it to settle down. We've got a 1,000 ft. long runway at that. All in all they are great flying planes, if it was to crash tomorrow I would definintely have another one. As far as engine mounting mine is mounted sideways. You have to cut a couple of slots for the rocker covers and to reach your glow plug unless you use a on-board glow or remote igniter. I've heard the big 1.80's don't run well inverted and I've not had any luck with them that way either. You may want to get some other opinions first though. Hope this helps.
