Default RE: 1/12 scale combat launcher

It seems back in the early days of 704 (2105) combat, The launcher was a popular idea. Airkill used to sell plans for one built out of 2x4s and used a bungee powered cradle that remained attached to the base.
These were abandoned almost immediately as they were somewhat big and heavy. The biggest problem is the sudden forward motion would tend to make you engine go lean at exactly the wrong time for this to happen.
It really is best to learn the ropes of hand launching as it works fine. I prefer to hold my planes around the canopy area at the center of gravity. I have even added some wet or dry sandpaper here to get a good grip. I use the under hand launch technique. I prefer this because, as the pilot an overhand launch usually results in exhaust in my eyes. I have never had a failed launch attempt this way with a 2610 model. It works very well.
The biggest trick is to not throw the model hard. You want it to leave your hand in a straight line with the nose slightly up. The problems I see generally are planes thrown hard and forced into unsafe attitudes that cannot be corrected because the plane is close to a stall. It is important to keep the nose down and allow the model to fly away with a gentle climb out. You do not want to stall and snap by giving any quick elevator input.
Good luck and have fun.
