Better to start work with the engine that has the smallest bottom end case, but if you have the ability to turn excess material away without reducing case strength then any of the Briggs would do. As you already know, Briggs engines have a prettry hefty case. This is an area that I have to agree that starting with saw and blower engines makes the conversion job a whole heck of a lot easier. Echo and Poulan are great starting points.
