I kept smashing my truck into walls (and other things) at full speed when my batteries ran out, so I acutally took the plung and bought a Futaba Fasst Radio system. This is kind of expensive, but in my mind it is well worth it. Waiting for parts and spending money on repairs in the long run is fairly costly too! The radio system has a built in fail safe among tons of other great features. I found mine on ebay for about $180 to my door. Not sure if that is an option for you or not, but if so, I would highly recommend it.
