Excuse me for butting in on your private chat with the wall, however, you (we) may have underestimated the real potential of this marketing ploy. Perhaps the real product is the mailing list of individuals that sent their $$$ in for the unsolicited merchandise. Now this kind of list has got to be a more valuable commodity to peddle than your garden variety list of members of a hobby association. It is pre-screened to include only what the hucksters are really after: "Hey y'all look at this! These suckers will buy anything you mail them!"

Anyhow as funny as you put it, I think you are 100% right. The AMA weeded out those who do not want to be in the program moving forward, but at least all the members, at the very least, got a free preview. Gotta give them some credit for at least doing ... something. But seriously, when was the last time you received a phone call or sent something that wasn't from a direct partner of the AMA? It's not like they are selling your information to a stock broker. Although sometimes I wish they did.
