It has to do with the m/r system, not the skid system. If you took a fully articulated head and had a solid skid system, it would likely rollover before getting to idle. A Bell Jetranger (2-bladed, semi-rigid, underslung m/r head) doesnt shake the fuselage like a Hughes 500 can on the ground, and doesnt require more than a simple skid landing gear. A pilot also has to be very smooth on landings with that system, it has NO give. The landing gear on a Hughes 500 has a lot of play, very absorbing, and a HUGE pain in the ass to work on!
