Default Cannister/Muffler

Hello Guys; Ive been welding up some cannisters for the larger gas engines for local guys and we have been using .049 6061 aluminum. They have been turning out pretty nice but we are always looking for ways to shave off a few ounces. Has anyone tried thinner material?? say .035. I realize there will be a point where its a pain to tig weld or it will tend to ressonate or be to fragile and Im just wondering if anyone has gone past that point.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Adam
