Well, between bad weather on the weekends and deer hunting it took 2 months to do the first flight.
It flew great. No aileron, or rudder trim, and three clicks of up elevator.
I have the controls set at the manual specs of 20 degress each surface. ( except the rudder, I always go with max rudder ).
Ailerons could be set more, but the 20 degrees is good and is a perfect starting point for anyone to customize.
I was alittle worried about the weight at 14 lb. 3 oz. tank empty ( 22 oz. tank ), but it flew and glided great.
Landings are slow and smooth, it will flare for a super smooth 3 point landing.
One issue that I am having is the landing gear / pivot point.
I have the CG set at perfect ballance ( tank empty ). I do all my planes at perfect balance, I never start out alittle nose heavy.
Well, I can't really taxi without it nosing over.
As soon as I touch any gas the tail lifts up and it want to nose over. Even with elevator on high rate at max deflection.
I am looking at having some custom made gear that will be taller, wider, and swept forward.
I am going taller because I need more prop.
The Brillelli 36GT ran A+++++.
The largest prop that I can run with the stock landing gear is 18"
I am running a APC 18 X 6W @ 8250 rpm.
Verticle was unlmited, but not fast and powerful.
I want to run a Xoar 19 X 8 and the verticle and punch out of a hoover should be much better.
No coupling on either left of right knife edge and just a touch of down for inverted flight.
Once I get the landing gear sorted out, I would say this is a great buy.
Wish it was lighter, but you don't notice the weight in the performance.
Definately a 35cc - 40cc gasoline plane though. There is no way I can see this fly with a 1.08 - 1.20 two stroke glow like they call for.
More forward swept and taller landing gear. 1 - 1 1/2 pounds lighter and this would go from a
great, to a
awsome plane.
Landing gear I am doing. As far as the weight, Maybe the elevator servos could be mounted under the canopy instead of the tail. This would make it so I could lose some of the 9 oz. of lead in the nose. Drop down to one RX battery and switch. The big thing is to get the tail lighter and not add any dead weight.
Hopefully my flying season will be as good as my hunting season.
