RE: Losing The Experts and Their Knowledge
I second the motion on getting some uniformity among the moderators. And sure, they could loosen up a bit on the rules. We all just need to work toward those goals.
For me, I guess I have gotten used to rules---26 years in the AF will do that to you---and overall, I think they make for a better world (and a better RCU). That doesn't mean the rules shouldn't or can't be changed. They can. We just have to drive that change within the bounds set up by this great gathering place.
I hate to see Al leave---his posts were very valuable---and I don’t want to see any of the other experts leave. That said, it seems to me that the path to change is not blazed by leaving the path, it's by working harder for the change. I hope most of the experts that bring the real value to RCU will see it that way. Otherwise, those of us seeking their knowledge will be left to learn by our mistakes. (And as one of the gathered experts says, “...you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself.”
So, we all need to sound off reasonably and logically for uniform and more tolerant enforcement by the moderators. The powers that be will see that as a positive. After all, they want RCU to be successful just as we do. Let's hang in there, seek some change by letting our powerful voice be heard, and then concentrate on what’s really important---flying.
