I agree that some rules must be kept in place or chaos reigns supreme. However, those rules need to be flexible enough to permit various forms of expression. Often what one says can be skewed by the manner in which it was presented. There are also times when one person making the call can be too restrictive because it followed their personal defination of the rule. Sometimes a consensus needs to be obtained between several moderators before making the call.
It ROUGH being a moderator. I almost quit last month. We DO talk about it. It's just behind the scenes where you guys can't see it. We ask each other for opinions and help about problems BEFORE we edit or delete something. Not always, but quite regularly.
