you are correct. Only the tab key is necessary. Again, I found that out after I posted that last statement. Now, taking pictures is somewhat easier, having to use only one hand while keeping the other on the vital aileron/elevator stick.
I had someone else come over for me even so, I wanted to get a nice low hover with smoke on, and struggled letting go of the left stick even for a brief second to press tab.
Another alternative that I do when I am using Phoenix simulator is to take a video of what I am doing in the simulator, and then when the video is playing take a screenshot. Hopefuly it works for G4, I have not had a chance to test it out yet.
