RE: A10X still available?
My son Louie has an A10X that I shoehorned a P-80 into. Todd is right, it does require a good deal of modifications, but it will fit and if you're an experienced builder, its not hard. I was careful to get everything as far up front as possible and ours did not require any additional nose weight. As far as flying with the P-80, its actually flys very will with it. The guy we bought it from had a RAM 500 in it and it never seemed to get up on the step. With the P-80, you can take off in 200' with full fuel and go straight up. Flight times with a 50 oz tank are around 6 minutes. If he's set on the A10X, then its not necessary to sell the P-80...
On the other hand, the A10X is not really the ideal first jet. It flys well, especially with lots of power, but if you get it slow, it WILL snap, and it tends to bounce on landings unless you GREASE it in. Its been a good trainer for Louie, but I'm moving him up to an F-15 and I think he'll find it easier to land than the A10X.
When you modify the wing center section to fit around the P-80, it will be a great time to reinforce (i.e., take out and replace with REAL plywood) the main landing gear mounts.
