RE: 25% Cessna L-19/0-1 Bird Dog build
Chic, the package won't go out 'til tomorrow; I forgot today was MLK Day and no mail service. I looked up those Hitec servos, they have fairly similar specs and are definitely less $$$ than the Futabas. I may think on it a while, plenty of time. I don't know if I'm going to drop anything or not, but it's something else to think about.
Did a couple of small thing tonite. I glued up the crutches, the pieces aren't long enough by themselves; I cut an overlapping scarf joint and glued the pieces together, then pinned them down alongside my long "ruler" to keep them straight, and weighted the joint to keep it tight. After cutting them to length, I have a couple of pieces left to use for doublers on one of the fuse formers, which is the other thing I did tonite, adding the doublers to the fuse formers that require them (all three of the large cabin formers). I've decided to use nothing but aliphatic on the structure of this model (except for a few places that will get epoxy) and leave the Ca alone, except for some trim and small nonstructural details.
Here's a few pics, showing the scarf joint, and the doublers all clamped up. The last couple of pics are my "new best friends". I haven't had much chance to make use of them until this build, but I've had them a while. I find myself using the scroll saw a lot more than the bandsaw, it just makes a cleaner cut. I expect the bandsaw will get more use when I have to cut thicker stock, though.
