Default RE: AIR HOGS U-BUILD IT

I didn't even bother to fly mine. I bench tested the system and the vibration was severe and the actuator/rudder seemed to vibrate when rudder command applied. so I "harvested" the whole flight system last night. Will put it in a little Depron glider I made a while back. Weighs about 0.3 oz. (approx 9 grams). Very sticky adhesives used in assembly of fuselage. If anyone does this, be very careful: the actuator wires and the antenna wire are cleverly hidden in slits on the left side and bottom of the fuselage, respectively. I had to cut my fus into many small pieces to find this out. Yuk. Use a brand-new #1 blade or a new razor blade and be careful. The Fus foam (EPP, I think) is rubbery and resists a dull blade.

Actuator wires are sandwiched between rudder halves. Use Rubber Cement Thinner (Art Supply or Stationary stores) to delaminate rudder and to remove plastic nose/motor/gearbox and actuator coil as well as all the other sticky parts. A Q-Tip dipped in the Rub Cmt Thinner will remove some of the sticky. It loses its adhesion when wet, but is sticky again when dry. I think the mfgr didn't want us to hack this thing.

I pulled the motor out of the gear box. It looks like an Aero Ace motor to me, so i'll remove the small gear (plastic) and attach a leftover AA prop. Should do the trick. Well, maybe. Sorta.

If this works well, it's worth the twenty bucks.
