I have seen planes with 3-blade props, and I noticed very little difference between them and their 2-blade counterparts. In fact, they make sense if you want better clearance. I saw one on a 60 sized P-40 with a 4-stroke. I swear that thing could pull stumps, it definitely had enough torque.
