Usually it is the fingers that suffer most from the cold, not the plane.
Quite likely, you'll need to adjust the needles for the different conditions.

Another big concern is safety. During the winter, you are more likely to be at the field alone.
It is always a good idea to have someone there, who can drive you home or to the hospital. An injured person should not drive, even if it is relatively minor.
