RE: Evolution 58 vs DA-50
Yep, sounds reasonable. I've gotta say, if you knew what RC was like 25 or 30 years ago, you'd marvel now at all these cool things. We had these old Fox glow motors back then which were THE motors to have, and even the very best one, which was called something like the Eagle, it used a TON of fuel, it blew slime everywhere, it was temperamental, you had to kind of FEEL your way through it and adapt it to your region (We're in Maine, nothing liked it here!) using bits of fuel line on the needles because they leaked air in the cold weather. Now, when things aren't perfect out of the box, you get guys who want to start an uprising about it. Man, we used to DREAM about having access to technologies like this. When something is new now and an issue arises, the manufacturers actually DO something about within a fairly short period. We'd have been SO pleased to have had access to any of these present engines. A small Quadra back then had BUSHINGS and weighed a LOT. The premier gasser you could get was the Zenoah G-38s through G-62s, which were STILL heavy but at least had actual bearings, a BIG selling feature then.
Now, I'm the first to admit that the DA50 is an awesome powerplant, but at this point it's all in degrees. Being a motorhead myself (which means I can take anything in the WORLD and make it run right if I set my mind to it) with WAY too many years of RC engines under my belt, I decided on the EVO 45CC gasser with the electronic ignition. I was giving the DL50 some serious thought, but figured that since the EVO 45CC gasser is a Horizon product that the support would be there, like for the JRs and the Spektrums. You don't have to LIKE the hobby giant companies to recognize advantages they offer you. So anyway, I struck a balance there between overkill and high/low prices, I think I'm going to be real happy. A small side-note is that I don't do hard-core 3D flying, I dabble in it but it's really not the kind of flying that I love to do. This plane should be WAY more plane with this setup than I'd ever require! If I were a diehard balls-to-the-wall kind of flyer that just lives, eats and breathes 3D, I might go whole-hog on the DA50, but even then I think this setup would do a pretty good job, lots of other guys are quite happy with it and using it for that.
Besides, I like the pretty Blue on the engine. ( Man, I love trolling for flames!) Even the stand-offs are Blue!
