I've been using reed switches with my TCI module and they work well, but I've never tried to use a CDI or the like since I can't find documentation regarding the output levels of hall sensors so I could replace them for a reed.
One more thing: I've noticed you showed a CDI coil - do they work as good as a standard coil designed for TCI igntions?

BTW, the oil used for gasoline burns unlike the oil used for methanol. That's why it runs cleaner (albeit smokier?)
