RE: Badius Owners Club III
It's official, I no longer have a modded Super Cub. I went out to a soccer field where I've never flown before, this morning. Someone told me there were some guys flying planes there. There was only one guy there and he was haveing a terrible time trying to fly a Firebird Freedom, he bought at the same LHS that sold the guy the P-51, yesterday. It appears that he's been trying to fly it for a while as he had a whole trunk full of spare/repaired parts for it. I just sat and watched as he launched, rolled and stalled, over and over. I finally went over and struck up a conversation. He, naturally, started to tell me of his problems. and showed me the pile of spare parts he brought. I explained that, I also, started with a HobbyZone Firebird Freedom. After all, the box says it's a "beginner plane"....We both had a good laugh. I then looked over his plane and found several reasons why it would not fly. He went out to pick it up while I readied my HobbyZone Super Cub......He was almost back to the parking area, when I took off and started flying circuits. I then went into a series of rolls and loops, followed by a high speed, low level pass. I flew out the entire pack and landed it back in the parking lot. He came over and started checking out the plane, while I readied another battery. I ran the throttle up and while flying, I told him to watch my fingers while I explained what I was doing. After a few minutes, I saw him nodding his head, so I took it up to about 150 feet, reduced to half throttle , and handed him the TX.....It was somewhat erratic at first, but by the time I noticed that the motor was slowing down, he had a pretty good handle on it. I took the TX and landed next to the truck. I repeated this for another pack and all went well. I readied another pack and then handed him the TX.....I walked him through the take off and after a few circuits talked him down to the ground. It was shakey, and not the most beautiful thing to look at, but he was taking off, flying, and landing......
After that I took out the Stryker and flew several packs. We talked, after that, and I explained to him that the Firebird Freedom was truely a crummy plane, and while not wanting to hurt his feelings, suggested that he not spend any more money trying to fly it. Instead of spending $45 on a new wing set and tail boom, he put that money towards something that would actually fly well. He then said he was off to LHS to buy a Super Cub. When I explained to him that mine was not stock, and that if he bought a new one, it would not be the same as mine, he asked me if I'd sell him, mine......A little more conversation and he now owns a Super Cub.....
So Now......What do I replace it with????.....HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
