Default RE: Sportwerks Mayhem ST

If you have the RTR, then yes, the steering servo is crap. I run a Hitec 5955. I've also used a JR 9000T, both are great servos and well worth the money. Use the stock 590 steering servo for throttle / brakes.

As for your starting problem, the sharter shaft shaft turns another shaft, which turns a one way bearing, which then turns the crankshaft. So no, it's not connected straight to the piston. Your problem is that the one way bearing is dirty or worn. You'll likely want to remove the engine from the chassis, and then remove the four screws holding the roto-start backplate on. You may have to remove the engine backplate as well (another four screws). With my pull-start, the one way bearing was inside the engine backplate. I think it's the same for the roto start.

Once you have the bearing out, blast it with some nitro cleaner or carb cleaner. Also clean the shaft which goes into the one-way bearing. Then, reinstall and try again. If it still slips, it needs to be replaced.
