I'm assuming that this has 2 motors and the battery is a Nimh?
How hot is the ESC getting?
Cooling is a must for both the battery and the ESC, and it makes it worse to just run it on the ground without the added airflow over the electronics.
Also if it's a nimh, it will need to be cycled a few times to build the pack up to capacity.
When you test fly it, try to keep the throttle to a minimum, 1/2- 3/4 at most and see how hot everything is after your flight, you might need to step up to a bigger battery, but not knowing the ESC specs I'm not sure what you can do.
