I do cut off the needle valve so it dosn't hit. I have the carb flipped on a fun fly though.

I had forgoten about the remote needle, mine had broken off from another mishap and when I used the OS 32 on the Outlaw I tucked it out of the way like you did.
The needle on the TT39 (now on the Outlaw) sticks down lower than like. My front skid helps protect it.
