I don't know why more women aren't into it. I'm sure there's a myriad of reasons. But I do think it's a myth that girls don't like science and engineering, including flight.
Women are 'incompetent' when it comes to mechanical and sciences. This is because of the way society conditions them. Example ... a small boy falls, he cries, here we tell him he cannot cry as he is a BOY. But when a little girl falls she cries and the mummy and daddy will pacify them. I think there is no reason why girls cannot fly RC etc. There is no physical handicap for them. So society has made it that the woman is a mother, child bearing factory etc etc. Of course that is her role too but why not a mother who is a F22 fighter pilot too or a NASCAR mechanic? I am sure there are women like that who are not a butch. I believe some who race etc are pretty too!
I'm kinda jumping in here with comments like those. Can't resist.
That is all a bunch of nonsense. I'm instructing a LT-40 build class for an Aerospace class at the University. We have 4 female engineering students out a class of 10. They are very competent and interested. They are just good. I enjoy working with them. It is interesting to see them adapt to the building concept and how they relate to it just like guys.
