Composite V-Tail Lay up Pictures
Took some pictures of a V-tail layup that I did over the weekend.
Outer fiberglass .75 oz, 1/32" contest balsa skins, Inner fiberglass .75 oz.
Skinned hinge is .005 fiberglass laminate, with an additional layer of .75 oz slighter larger than the laminate.
I stained the wood skins for a little color, it would have looked better had I stained the fiberglass laminate also. I used Dave Brown Micro balloons mixed with the laminating resin / coladial silica to try and match the brownish / red color of the stain.
Molds were waxed with Dolphin Wax, PVA applied, and then sprayed with KlassKote Clear. Epoxy was EZ Lam 60 Laminating Resin, and the halves were bagged at 21" of mercury.
Not going to do a step by step, but just show the pictures that I took during the process. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Final weight was 2.5oz, slightly heavier than where they normally come out, but not bad.
