if its a electronic speed control there may be some drain on the battery even in an "off" state. it may take a week to drain your pack but it can and will drain it to 0V which can be bad for the battery.

but I think the main reason is they dont want someone to accidently leave it on and then call them up complaining that "their car ruined my batteries.... no of course I didnt leave it on... etc etc"
