That is actually exactly what is shown on the plans. It is deceiving. It actually leaves probably 80% of the contact surface between the 2 halves, plus of course, the 2 plywood wing joiners. It is fiberglassed top and bottom and about as rigid as a surfboard.
It looks like it's almost thru the wing (optical illusion), and I forgot about the ply joiners.
