RE: Maj. Woody's Fei Bao L-39
I finished the Turbine and pipe installation. I did not use the blocks that came with the kit for my installation. I found them to be too tall. I used 1/4" ply. I had to remove much of the intake to get clearance for the fod screen. The turbine is mounted with four 6/32 socket head screws and blind nuts. I will also use washers, lock washers and locktite during final assembly. I found it necessary to make a bulkhead for the pipe just behind the front and also to add a ply ring in the rear. The hole in the back was way too large (also the rear ring establishes the proper thrust line) and without a bulkhead upfront, the pipe will drift easily if it is just secured with the stainless straps. I added a block under the servo mounts for my straps and screws. The pipe is now secure up front and in the rear and is very solid with no drift. I am wondering if I should enlarge the holes in the bulkhead that I built and the rear ring just a bit to account for expansion of the pipe when it heats up. Any thoughts? Tomorrow I will run the rudder and elevator leads and apply BVM Heat Blanket and aluminum tape around the fuse in the area of the turbine / pipe gap.
