RE: NITRO VS ELECTRIC
Thanks. I actually find this topic very interesting from a business standpoint. We are basically witnessing a complete disintermediation of an industry. RC right now is based around nitro cars, however, the technology is now readily available that makes nitro obsolete. It will be interesting to see how companies react to the new technology. You can rest assured that the major mfg all have their engineering depts scrambling to come up with products. If not, they are going to be out of business. I would be shaking in my boots if I were a manufacturer of nitro engines. Does novarossi make anything else? Strategically, they should be looking to acquire a company like Neu. I wouldn't want to be the best manufacturer of buggy whips.
I honestly have been pretty disappointed at how slow a lot of the companies are reacting though. However, I think they get it. I also think many of the companies need to reconsider the demographics that goes along with the technology. Many people like me are gettign back into the hobby because brushless/lipo tech makes the cars faster and more powerful than nitro. When I say like me, I mean grown men with large disposable incomes who wouldn't think anything of dropping hundreds of dollars (if not thousands) on a rc car. Most grown men are just big kids. Many of us got out of the hobby because back in the day, you had electric for the younguns and then you moved up to nitro. However, many of us would have loved nitro cars, but simply couldn't deal with the inconvenience (mess and noise mainly). I don't have the ability to drive a loud RC car conveniently where I live as my neighbors would not take to it too kindly. However, with electric I now drive my car at all hours with no complaints and nothing but smiles from on lookers when my "toy' buzzes by them at 60 mph. When I saw the Rustler VXL by accident at a hobby store I was sold instantly. I can relive my childhood, but do it in a grown up way with a car that gets to 60 in about 3 seconds. It ain't 13 year olds who are going to be buying these cars. It is grown ass men.
Looking at the video, electric is kind of boring next to nitro without the noise. However, I think people will get over it.
