It's really no trick at all to make an engine run on ethyl alcohol. Just richen up the mixture, and make the fuel system out of components that are alcohol resistant. If the engine is purpose built for alcohol, it can have higher compression, which boosts engine efficiency. The engine will have more power, and about the same fuel economy as with gasoline if it is purpose built for alcohol.
