Hughes was a major stockholder in Trans World Airlines at the time, but his contribution to the Connie was limited to the specifications for the range and capacity, and he had some small input into the flight deck layout. The design was another of Kelly Johnson's Grand Slams (with help, of course, from the Lockheed engineering dept).
