I think in this situation, the instructor who told me this had seen someone else who had paid for the instuction and was dissatisfied at the experience of the instructor and the outcome. But, it's all personal opinion.

To tell you the truth, I am on neither side, I would pay if I had to, but since I don't it's just an added bonus. I also believe that like anything else (an instrument, swimming, etc..) sometimes it is better to pay for instruction from a seasoned pro.

I guess I am lucky. The club I am in, there are several good instructors who are more than willing to help.
