RE: I remember when......
I remember when steam locomotives filled the railyards waitng for the scrapper's torch and dieselization began....when passenger trains were the hallmark of a certain railroad company not owned by the government...they had names the california zephyr, the city of new Orleans, the Superchief...they had vista dome cars... I remember when Bobby Kennedy flew into our little town on a DC3 as he was campaigning for his brother in 1960...I remember being frightened because my older sister was convinced that we'd all be blown up during the cuban missile crisis... I remember actually getting our cox u control planes to work and fly! by accident at first but then we got good...we'd fly at the local school yard and neighbors would come, not to complain about the noise, but enjoy the modest airshow we could put on... then, balsa kits....I remember grabbing the handle flying my first "big" plane at the end of sixty feet of wire... how about ice hockey on the frozen lake...then cars, girls , motorcycles, family, career, and full circle back to the wonderful world of model aviation...but if you were gonna fly back then, you had to build...now, gyros, turbines, digital, Bob's song was timeless- the times they are a changin'
