Mounting a canopy
I am also in the process of building this plane.I glued 1/4"x1/4" rails down the top side edges of the cockpit floor.I also had the same bowing thing happening.I first marked my center. Then I used medium/gap filling Ca (I should have used oderless Ca to avoid smoking!) around the front.then the back.Leaving enoungh unglued on both to be able to lift the sides and lay a bead of glue all the way down the rails. This way I got a solid bead all the way around. But,the bowing was preventing me from getting an even bond.So I used a 1"x1/2"x 12" piece of hard wood to keep an even pressure the entire length.Only problem was the Ca took 5 minutes to kick off.It was a very long 5 minutes of holding pressure down. There was some smoking even after I cleaned it good.
I bought my Dad the oderless and he had no smoking problems. He did his the same way and it came out nice.
The Ca works exellent. The wood will break before the Ca does.
I say 5 minutes was very long. Can you imagine what it would take with some of the other kinds of canopy glues???
lennyk,I am sure their are many other ways.I think this is the fasted and strongest.Save the punch out for the hole in the back and use a couple of drops of thin to hold it in.Paint it with the rest.Looks nice and can be opened for access inside for whatever reasons.
