ok so the paper thing works cause i felt a little dumb but thats good. When i tightened the motor i did so fairly hard and the gears seemed to be free spinning with little effort i think i may have incorrectly installed the gear is there a trick? and is this a common problem or can i like buy a metal one or something?
What did you mean by a little effort? The gears/ bell & spur should spin freely. There should be a small amount of play between the gears when they are set correct, that is why you did the paper trick but you can still over tighten them. I've done it so many times that I don't use paper to set the gear spacing any more.
