GS Storm RTR Rebuild
Well, since this is the GS Storm thread I thought I'd throw in my two cents:
I just ran my first gallon of fuel through my GS Storm RTR, so I decided to break it down for a complete inspection & rebuild.
Those of you who own a GS Storm RTR will be interested in what I found:
- NO OIL IN THE DIFFERENTIALS! I disassembled and cleaned them completely and found them to be in very good condition despite the lack of oil. I then refilled them with 5000, 7000, 1000 oil, and replaced the gaskets.
- The front and rear gearboxes do not seal with the chasis well which allows dirt to enter the gearbox. I created a paper gasket using a grocery sack and an exacto knife. I think it will work.
- One rear dogbone pin was broken (which was a great excuse to upgrade to rear CVDs)
- The rear chasis suspension mount holes were completely "wollered" out. I had to by a new chasis, so check your rear suspension arm mounting screws frequently! I upgraded to the CNC mounting blocks and bought stainless screws. With a little loc-tite this problem should go away.
- The clutch shoes and bell were in good condition
Everything else was in great shape!
As far as breakages goes, I've had only two (aside from the dogbone) and that was a C-hub (which was a $6 part) and a rollover that has caused the right front shock to have a minor leak (havn't fixed that yet).
This buggy has turned out to be WAY MORE DURABLE than my RC10GT, and it's more fun to drive!
