With plenty of ribs and the usual sized spar caps, we could probably do without shear webs for the outer 3/4 wing span of a sport model.

Some of the profile 3D planes intentionally leave the last couple of bays open with no shear webs to allow some tip flex in case you stuff one into the ground. Sometimes a bit of compliance is a good thing.
