I am thinking about getting a 1/8th buggy to race. The track I want to go to says they abide by ROAR rules. So i checked out the ROAR website and it says that engine size is .21 open.. what does open mean? every RTR ive looked at has .26 or .28 engines.. So are those cars illegal?? thanks for the help...
So why are all these new buggies coming out with larger engines? doesnt make any sense..
YOu have a few things to consider. RTR's generally are not going to be up to race standards anyway as far as duribility and power. They use cheaper stamped parts and fairly low quality over sizeed engines that are cheap to build and include in the kit. After all RTR's are all about cost point. Your including a radio and engine, unless you want a $800 RTR you have to cut corners somewhere.
On the other side too you also have the noob factor. Like JMcDonald said, RTR's are geared toward the basher, not the racer. Most noobs are pretty much backyard bashers.
Then you have the "size matters" factor.
IMO A noobish basher buying for the 1st time will look at that engine size and think that a 26, 28, or 32 will be more powerful and faster than a 21 (VERY NOT TRUE). So you get the RTR crowd buying the buggies with the biggest engine they can get....
