Howard, now that you've got one plane - transmitter combo working, go back to the other setup. Pick any plane and make sure you get the correct transmitter. you may still need to calibrate it. Eventually you'll find your grove with the software and begin loving it. One thing I've found with the software, if there are instructions, do not skip a step. Each step is vitally important to the next. It maybe something very simple, so no matter what, follow those instructions.
