The way I do most of my planes, not all but most. I install the Y harness in the fuselage plugged into the receiver and the extensions come out of the wing by a few inches. At the field I plug the extensions into the Y harness when installing the wing.
You need a connection from your receiver unless you want to mess with trying to plug directly into it every time, which can be a real hastle.
