I didn't notice... did anyone mention which airport this happened at?

With any significant wind at all, they would have changed runways. If it was gusting to 100, then the airport would have been closed unless the plane had some type of in-flight emergency and they just absolutely had to find the ground, regardless.

Just my opinion (and about 2500 hours aircrew experience) here.
