I had thought about doing the same thing you did but wasn't sure I will need extra weight up front.
This was VERY thin wall brass tubing and prolly weighs less than the full sized original pipes.

I am gonna try to retro fit a set of Hangar 9 retracts from a buddies P-47 he crashed a few months ago.
We'll see and I will post results.
I am actually taking pictures of all mods and I will be doing a build thread soon !
