RE: Hunting Thread
In Michigan, the rule is it must be centerfire. There is no min. cal.. I shot most of my deer with a .222. I do not shoot shoulders though. I shoot them in the neck and dont have to mess with blood shot meat in the shoulder region. In the past few years I have hunted with my 30-06 and didn't care for it. So I bought a 25-06 which I fell in love with. I have hunted with it since. I still shoot the neck with it but now have longer shot possibilities provided I am confident with the shot. I will not take a bad shot. I see it happen too often up here. Folks bring out a huge rifle and think because it is big they can shoot carelessly. To date I have taken 4 deer that have been wounded by large cal. rifles with bad aim. Legs missing, jaw missing, 2 with holes in their ears! I cannot see how this happens but know the type that did it.
