Default RE: Futaba FASST feedback and TESTING

The weather was not as good as initially thought today, so I only got to fly the L39.[sm=sad_smile.gif]
Flights took place in a very damp atmosphere due to continual showers and even a hailstorm.[sm=50_50.gif]
In the good bits in between, the sky was clear enough to fly the L39 to extreme height.
It was that high in fact that club member with me lost sight of it (glad I didn’t) .[sm=72_72.gif]
Well, the FASST system performed perfectly, the range is way more than I can see the models, so that is good enough for me.

In all the flights I had the model was flown out very wide and I also executed many ‘snap’ manoeuvres. At all times the system was rock solid.
This was also while other FASST users were airborne.

I am now totally sold on the suitability of this system in jets, it is very impressive indeed.
Good install principles still remain, just because it is good does not mean that risks should be taken in the model.
I still keep the rx and aerials away from the ECU, battery leads and pump. It is also advisable to keep the aerials away from any metal objects and carbon fibre. The tests I have done indicate that carbon is not an issue…however ..these are simple ground tests and until it can be confirmed in the air, I will follow common sense rules that say don’t do it.
Futaba have got it spot on IMHO. The simplicity of the install, the lack of additional rx’s and (in my case) no need for power busses or high powered packs. I just removed the 35 meg rx and replaced it with the FASST one, no other changes were needed.
My jets run on standard AA size nickel/hydride cells of between 2 and 3amp capacity, no trouble at all.
In all the testing I have done, on the ground, in prop models and now in jets I have never been able to break the rf link, it is just so solid it is amazing.

I look forward to better weather and the show season to get started in the UK…..no waiting for the peg/pin….how good is that.[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=49_49.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif]
