RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
hey folks! OK so I just finished reading through the whole thread! Seriously! It took a few days but I managed to do it. I''ve been looking for any and all ideas to improve steering.
If you recognize me you''ll know that I posted all the pics of places where you can grind clearence to gain more overall stearing. I have real good radius and all that but I''m still fighting the slop! I have to set my endpoint adjustments way past the point of straining the servo to get the wheels to hold a nice tight turn. I am on my third fUTABA 3305 and it''s starting to get annoying. If I adjust the endpoints so as to preserve the servo I lose about half of my turning radius. One of the worst places I can see is the servo saver. The whole thing actually pivots a little allowing for the whole steering assembly to slop back and forth. I think this is where a lot of the problem is. I don''t think tightening the servo saver will help because as I said the whole thing wiggles back and forth between the chassis and the upper deck. I will tear her down this weekend to try some of the ideas other guys have had that I have read about but I was wondering if anyone had noticed this allready and figured out a way to fix it? I am thinking maybe a shim under the saver so that when tightened up it will snug the servo saver down against the chassis?
Anyhow, I still really like my SS. I can take it to the track, and I may not be as nimble or light as the other truggys, but none of them can take the abuse that my Hellfire can take! "To finish first... first you must finish"!!!!! I am soon to have my own track in my back yard! It will be small but I can''t wait cause I''ll be able to make setup adjustments and know immediately how they effect handling and all that stuff. You can''t reallly do that just bashing around and the tracks around here are to far away just to go hang out at and mess with setup. It''s gonna be too kewl! Post u guys later!
