RE: RTF brushless plane for beginner
My opinion is you might want to check out a Fledgling II from Modeltech. It's not a RTF but it comes with a brushless motor and Speed controller. It's got a reasonable 55 inch wingspan and is a fantastic flyer. easy to see, handles wind and is still very portable.
It also uses a smaller, less expensive battery so you can buy two packs and fly twice as long for the same price as one larger battery needed for the 40 size trainer .
You can also purchase a better radio than the ones that come with the RTF. (which may be fine for you but at least you get the choice)
Finally you gain the experience of assembling and setting up your ship. Very important skills for a new flyer to have.
