Ok I will try this again (had it posted last night but thread disappeared).
I am slowly getting back into the hobby. I have tried Nitro and while it has it's pluses, it also has some minuses that effect my fun factor. Going to give electric a go. I have old equipment (10 years or so) so I am sure I will need to invest in a charger and packs. My question is which kind? NiMH or Lipo?
Stuff to know:
1) I am a basher, don't plan to race....ever
2) I have a fairly strict budget
3) FUN is the most important
So what do the masses of RCU think?
1. Bashers can still benefit from lipo. You typically get a little longer runtimes than nimh mah ratings. Plus with lipo you can charge over and over again in the same day. Nimh they recommend no more than 3 cylces per day. You can do more but you'll shorten battery life.
2. What kind of budget exactly. Even with nimh you don't want to cheap on the charger. I had a budget charger and it false peaked alot. Plus a better charger will maintain your batteries better and they will last longer. You'll pay more upfront but you'll extend the life of your batteries and save in the long run.
3. Lipo and nihm can provide similar fun factor. You'll see some performance gain with lipo even wit brushed motors. But the nimh is still going to be better than the old nicds. What kind of vehicle do you have now? If your using your old vehicle, nimh will be plug and play, you'll want a low voltage cutoff or new esc for lipo.
