Send him the engine. He will make the required ring, install it, and return the engine to you all done. All for a very reasonable price. Doesn't matter if your engine is obsolete or not. Turn around time was quite acceptable. Piston rings aren't usually made from steel, rather from a high grade of cast iron called mehanite. What more could you ask?
