I had the same go-round with my Pz III ausf N, which has a one piece hatch. Don't know what you were sanding, but all that needs to be done is super glue the 2 halves together, fill in the crease with modelling putty and file it down smooth and add a simple U handle. . All that is left then, is to eliminate one hinge and add the hardware and leather head protector for the underside of the hatch lid. I thought I had spares, but looking through by parts box, it apears I used them. Mato sells parts, but if all you need is the hatch lid. all you have to do is cut a plastic disc for the cupola and fashion a hinge. Hope this helps.
